Handshake is now integrated with Authorize.net to help you get paid faster. Authorize.net (acquired by Visa in 2010) has over 440,000 active merchants and is one of the dominant payment gateways for SMBs since 1996, processing over $126 billion in transaction volume.
Authorize.net can be used by Handshake customers in two different ways:
- Authorize.net as merchant account provider: Authorize.net acts as your merchant account and as your payment gateway.
- Authorize.net acting as gateway only: Authorize.net connects to most merchant services providers through their integration to a number of major payment processing companies.
This integration will make it simple to capture credit card payments for your Handshake orders.
- Your Authorize.net account will need the Customer Information Manager enabled. View this article for instructions on how to enable this.
- View this article to see a breakdown of available functionality and a comparison of Authorize.net to other payment providers.
Please note, due to Authorize.net security protocol, credit cards taken on Handshake Rep have to sync to the server within 15 minutes or the authorization token will expire and you will not be able to access the card information. We recommend you sync your device after every card entered and confirm that you see "sync complete" on the iOS sync screen.
- Read more about the payments functionality available on Handshake Direct, Handshake Hub.
Authorize.net supported processors
While authorize.net has their own merchant account offering, they can also act as a gateway to a huge range of other credit card services.
When acting as a payment gateway only, the Authorize.Net Payment Gateway supports connections to all of the major credit card processors and merchant services providers that use these processors. As listed on this page, these include:
- Chase Paymentech - Tampa Processing Platform
- Elavon
- First Data Merchant Services (FDMS) - Omaha and Nashville Processing Platforms
- Global Payments - Easy Processing Platform
- Heartland Payment Systems
- Worldpay
- TSYS Acquisting Solutions
How to find out if your merchant service provider is supported by Authorize.net
- Check their website. At the bottom of most homepages, there will likely be a disclaimer about them being an ISO for a larger bank (e.g. Merchant Service Provider is an ISO of Chase Bank), to see if it matches or closely matches one of the above listed supported processors
- Contact your merchant service provider and ask them to verify their processing platform
- Contact your merchant service provider and ask them for their VAR sheet (could also be called a Tear sheet or Parameter sheet), this form will list the processor and associated configuration numbers needed to connect to Authorize.net
- Still not sure? Submit a support request with the name of the credit card processing service, their website address and we will look into it for you.
