Product blacklisting is one of Handshakes catalog visibility controls and enables you to make specific products, subcategories, categories, and even entire manufacturer lines unavailable for customers. This catalog configuration can be set for a specific customer or for a customer group.
Prerequisites
In order to make use of product blacklisting, you'll need to first configure your customer groups. Information on setting up customer groups can be found here.
Common Use Cases
- Region-specific product selling
- Category-specific customer purchasing
How To Set Up Product Blacklisting
After assigning your customers to customer groups, you can start blacklisting products through the products spreadsheet of the bulk importer/exporter.
For the purposes of this example, we've hidden some of the columns in the products spreadsheet so we can focus on the ones needed for product blacklisting. In this instance, we want to make manufacturer line Zen Gifts unavailable for customers in the groups HVR and UK. While unavailable to HVR and UK, all other customers should be able to purchase these products. Notice how the unitPrice column is filled out with the standard pricing for these products, however in the unitPrice:HVR and unitPrice:UK columns we've made the pricing NA. When a product's price is NA for a specific customer group, it will be visible on a rep's iPad, but cannot be added to an order for anyone in that group. On Handshake Direct, an NA product will never be visible to a customer in the blacklisted customer group.
Once your products spreadsheet has been modified to your liking, you'll import the spreadsheet back in to your Handshake account via the bulk importer/exporter. After that has been done, and each rep has synced their device, they will no longer be able to order the Zen Gifts product line for a customer in the UK or HVR customer groups.
