Getting started with Auto-Import
Auto import is Handshake’s simplest form of integration. Handshake administrators can set up shared data sheets, we check them every hour, and if there are changes we automatically import the sheet again. It’s as easy as that!
Auto-Import not only increases data accuracy in the field, but it saves administrative time. We can automatically import each data type, save your mappings, and maintain accurate data overtime.
All data types that are managed through our Bulk Imports/Export tool are supported and function in the same way: Items, Customers, Credit Cards, Images, Ship-Tos, Users. Options, Prices, Price Lists, Stock Units, Reports.
Steps:
-
Establish your automatic export from your system to Dropbox, FTP, Box, or Google Drive
-
Enable Auto-Import from your Handshake account settings
-
Login and manually import your auto import source file through Bulk Import/Export. Through the Filepicker interface, select the location you’ll pull from.
-
After the initial manual import, establish the auto import. Go to your import history and select "enable auto import" from the far right drop down arrow.
-
Go to account settings and choose your log level (notification level). Do you want to be emailed after each import? Or only when there are warning or errors?
-
To disable one auto import source file or replace it, filter for "Auto Import Source" then disable the appropriate file.
-
To disable all auto imports, go to account settings and turn off Auto-Imports.
More details:
-
The Auto-Import is established based on a file location and filename. Filename must stay consistent for Auto-Import to continue running
-
Every hour we scan each auto import source file, we ensure referential integrity by importing Items and Customers first.
-
If there has been a change to the file (indicated by the ‘checksum’), we import it again
-
There are three possible results of an Auto-Import: success, warning, failure and you can pick which level to receive emails about: all, warnings & failures, failures only
-
To stop or change an Auto-Import source:
-
Disable all: through account settings, when you turn it back on they will pick up where they left off.
-
Disable one: filter for auto import sources in bulk import history. disable relevant one.
-
Change source: go through the disable one flow, then set up a new auto import
